Top Schools 

Te Puke Intermediate displayed a faultless performance last Sunday 14 March to win the Top Schools Competition held at Paengaroa School. Te Puke Intermediate entered two teams into the competition and while the ‘A’ team won the competition the ‘B’ team made up of mostly Year 7 students finished in 3rd place. These incredible performances saw Te Puke Intermediate crowned as Overall Champions!!  

 

   
   

















Fastest in New Zealand

Te Puke Intermediate’s Jessica Bitcheno ran the fastest 1500m time in New Zealand for the 12 year old girls at the Western Bay of Plenty qualifying athletics meet on Saturday 20th February. Jessica ran the 1500m in 4:50.10 thrashing her personal best time run at NZ Champs by thirteen seconds!   

 

The Waikato/ Bay of Plenty Athletics Championship was held at Tauranga Domain on Saturday 6th March where Jessica won the 1500m and the 100m and finished 2nd in the 800m. Chanelle Oliver-Perrin another Year 8 athlete from Te Puke Intermediate also excelled at the Waikato/ Bay of Plenty Athletics Champs finishing 2nd in the 100m, 200m and 3rd in the 400m.

Another name to look out for in athletics is Samantha Bitcheno, Jessica’s younger sister. Samantha is in Year 7 at Te Puke Intermediate and at the Waikato/ Bay of Plenty Athletics Champs she won the 100m, 200m and 400m. Congratulations on your fantastic season Samantha.

Te Puke Intermediate wishes Jessica and Chanelle all the very best in the NZ Interprovincials Athletics Champs held over Easter weekend in Invercargill. Jessica will be competing in the 1500m, 800m and 400m while Chanelle will compete in the 100m, 200m, 400m and the discus. Congratulations on qualifying for this NZ Athletics event, all of us here in Te Puke are behind you and wish you all the very best for this event.    

                                              Girls Hip Hop Team

Our girls Hip Hop team competed in the Urban Dance schools competition at Baycourt scooping up first prize against very tough
competition. Hours of hard work and practice by the group along with teacher Sarah Martin saw the girls triumph. Congratulations to Maddie Jeffries, Jessebelle Gerrard, Larissa Hika, Lilly October, Bronte Simpson, Mia Wichman and Isabelle Wright.
 

TPI "Tui Glenn" Riding Team

27 April our Equestrian team of Luane
Macdonald-Carnie, Olivia Miller
and Jacob Chatfield competed at the Tui Glen Intermediate Horse riding competition. They competed against riders from 20 other schools in cross country, games and show jumping. Although the team was not placed, Olivia finished 4th overall only
dropping 1 rail all day.

 Olivia then went on to compete at the BOP Middle schools Dressage Championships on the 30th of April. She competed in two classes gaining a 1st equal in one and 1st in the other. In her final test Lilly won by just 1 mark over second place making her the BOP champion!
